Healthy Futures Start with School Breakfast

What is Offer Vs. Serve (OVS)? It allows students to decline some of the foods offered. The goals of OVS are to reduce waste while permitting students to decline foods they do not intend to eat. At lunch, we offer all 5 required food components - protein, grain, fruit, vegetable, and milk in required serving sizes. Student must select 3 of these with at least one selection being 1/2 cup fruit/veg. At breakfast, the required components offered are grains (optional protein) , fruit/veg , and milk. Under OVS, we offer four items from these components and a student must select at least 3 food items with at least one being 1/2 cup fruit/veg.
